West Papua Action is a solidarity and campaigning initiative begun in Co. Laois, and formally launched in January 1996 in Kildare, Ireland.

It has worked at many levels in Irish society to bring awareness and concern to the question of West Papua.

FOKER, a provincial network of NGOs established in 1992, evolved from a group of NGO activists and academicians concerned with the averse effects on the local population of Papua, then known as Irian Jaya, of the government's "Go East" policy which envisaged huge investments in the plantation sector, mining, logging and tourism. FOKER would function as: a platform for exchange and discussion between NGOs; a basis for joint advocacy on issues that affect the population; and an instrument to create and strengthen local organisations through training and other activities.

This Oxford (UK) based group is working with Papuans who are seeking independence, supporting Papuan refugees and influencing British government policy toward West Papua.

SKP, the Sekretariat Keadilan dan Perdamaian (Office of Justice and Peace) is an integral part of the Catholic Diocese of Jayapura. The SKP office was established by the Bishop of Jayapura, Most Rev. Dr Leo Laba Ladjar OFM in July 1998, focusing towards monitoring the human rights situation in Papua, socialising Papua problems, finding comprehensive solutions for conflict in Papua and networking with any organisations which have a similar vision and programs.

PapuaWeb is an information network for students, researchers, development workers, community leaders, government agencies and others working on issues relevant to Papua, Indonesia (formerly Irian Jaya).

The "West Papua Project" was established at the University of Sydney's "Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies" in October 2000. It seeks to promote peaceful dialogue between the people of West Papua and Indonesia, and to promote conflict resolution as a viable alternative to the current and escalating conflict. WPP's objectives include establishing relevant links with NGOs, academics and parliamentarians in Australia, West Papua and Indonesia; raising public awareness of the conflict between West Papua and Indonesia with particular reference to both the human rights implications and the threat to the stability of the South Pacific region.
